ISLAMIC, Fatimids. al-Zahir li-I'zaz Din Allah, AH 411-427 / AD 1021-1036. Dinar (Gold, 24 mm, 4.15 g, 6 h), first series, al-Mansuriyya, date off flan. Two concentric circles of inscription around a two-line central inscription, ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh / ʿAlī walī Allāh’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Ali is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic); inner inscription, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh waḥdahū lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); outer inscription, traces of ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū [ʿalā al-dīn kullih]’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions’ in Arabic). Rev. Two concentric circles of inscription around a two-line central inscription, ‘al-Ẓāhir li-Iʿzāz Dīn / Allāh amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘al-Zahir li-Iʿzaz Din Allah, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic); inner inscription, ‘ʿabd Allāh wa waliyyuhū ʿAlī Abu’l-Ḥasan al-imām’ (‘The servant of Allah and His friend, ʿAli Abu’l-Hasan, the Imam’ in Arabic); outer inscription, mint and date formula, of which only the mint name is legible.
